As one of the gems of Milan, the Museum of Ancient Art, known locally as Museo d’Arte Antica, is a haven for history and art enthusiasts. Situated inside the Sforza Castle, it boasts an impressive collection of medieval and renaissance artifacts.There is much to marvel at, from tapestries and sculptures to the impressive armory and grand frescoes.

History The Museum of Ancient Art was founded in 1862, following the unification of Italy, to exhibit the extensive collection of artwork and historical objects that belonged to the ruling families of Milan, especially the Sforzas. Over the years, the museum has seen substantial expansion, with contributions from private patrons and acquisitions from other institutions.

How to Get There The museum is located within the Sforza Castle in the northwest of the city center. The nearest metro station is Cadorna, serving lines 1 and 2. From there, the castle can be reached by a short walk. Alternately, trams 1, 2, 4, 12, and 14 stop at the Cairoli Castello outside the castle.
