After Patong Beach, Cool Down at Jungceylon Just 5 Minutes Away

ByBrandon B.2 min read

There's a point in every Patong beach day, usually somewhere around one o'clock, when the sand stops being enjoyable. The sun is directly overhead, the sunbed shade has shifted, and everyone in the group is quietly hoping someone else suggests leaving first.

The nearest sensible answer is about 400 metres away.

Five minutes from the sand

Jungceylon is located roughly 400 metres from Patong Beach, just a five-minute walk. It is the closest large indoor, air-conditioned space to the beachfront, which matters more than it sounds when you're carrying towels and a toddler in the middle of the day.

The same walk works in the other weather too. Patong's afternoon downpours in green season arrive quickly and empty the beach in minutes, and a covered mall five minutes away is a considerably better plan than sheltering under a beach umbrella. If you're building a wet-season itinerary, it's worth knowing the indoor things to do in Patong before you need them rather than while you're getting soaked.

Eat something that isn't fried on a cart

Beach vendors are fine for a snack. They are not lunch for many people with different preferences.

Inside the shopping mall, you get proper cuisine, Thai kitchens, international chains, coffee shops for anyone who just wants to sit in air-conditioning with an iced drink for twenty minutes. It's also cheaper than the beachfront restaurants along Thawewong Road, which are quite pricey.

The recovery stop

This is the part people underestimate. After a morning on the sand, you generally need some combination of: clean restrooms, somewhere with a back on the chair, aftersun for the shoulders you forgot, and a cold drink that isn't sold from a cooler box.

Jungceylon covers all four in one building. THANN and Thairapy stock skincare if the sunburn arrived earlier than expected, and there are pharmacy counters in the mall for anything more serious.

Turn a beach morning into a full day

What happens next? Instead of the day ending with the daylight heat, you get a second half of the day relaxing in air-conditioning:

  • SF Cinema City in The Botanica Zone; a two-hour, fully air-conditioned reason to sit still and enjoy the movie.

  • Spa and Massage in Thairapy Zone; a foot or Thai massage, ideally booked for the hottest part of the afternoon

  • Souvenir shopping with actual variety; NaRaYa, Good Goods, and items in Big C for things you can carry home, rather than the same beach-road stalls

By four or five o'clock the light softens, and the beach becomes pleasant again, so you can walk back for sunset if you want.

Beach in the morning. Jungceylon from around midday to cool off, eat and reset. Back out in the late afternoon.

It's five minutes of walking, and it turns a half-day into a full one.
