Where to Eat in Fort Worth

Fort Worth eats like two cities at once. There is the cattle-town version, all smoke and steak, and there is the newer one where a chef-driven dining room sits a block from a decades-old diner. Both are real, and a weekend here covers a lot of ground without repeating itself.

Barbecue is the obvious starting point. Goldee's Barbecue pulls people out to Dick Price Road on the south side, and Hurtado Barbecue Fort Worth is the other name that comes up. For the older Fort Worth, H3 Ranch sits on East Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards, while Reata and The Lonesome Dove Western Bistro handle the special-occasion end.

The city clusters by street more than by neighborhood. West Magnolia Avenue runs from Paris Coffee Shop through Cane Rosso and Spiral Diner & Bakery, which makes it the easiest stretch to walk if you want choices. West 7th and Foch Street hold Don Artemio, Dos Mares, Hatsuyuki Handroll Bar and Dirty Laundry within a few blocks of each other. Downtown is where POLANCO and The Archibald sit.

Tacos are their own map. Anejo Taqueria is north on Beach Street, Birrieria y Taqueria Cortez and La Antojeria Jalisco draw the neighborhood crowd, and Velvet Taco covers the late end.
