History
Encompassing the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and the Mackenzie Basin, The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve was established in 2012. It is officially recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association and is the largest dark sky reserve in the world, stretching over a whopping 4300 square kilometers.
