Fusterlandia is a vibrant mosaic wonderland located in the Jaimanitas neighborhood on the western outskirts of Havana, Cuba. This artistic enclave was created by José Fuster, often referred to as the “”Picasso of the Caribbean,”” over several decades. Fusterlandia is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, culture, and the unique blend of Cuban and international influences.
The history of Fusterlandia began in the 1970s when José Fuster started decorating his own home with mosaics. Over time, he expanded his work to include the surrounding streets and homes, transforming the area into a kaleidoscopic masterpiece. Fuster’s inspirations include modernist greats like Picasso and GaudÃ, as well as Cuban culture and folklore.
To reach Fusterlandia, you can take a taxi or a hop-on-hop-off bus from Havana’s city center. The journey typically takes about 30 minutes by taxi. Alternatively, you can use public transportation, but it may require more time and effort to navigate.
There is no entrance fee to visit Fusterlandia, but donations are welcome to support local art and community projects. You can also purchase artwork and souvenirs from José Fuster’s showrooms.
