In the heart of San Antonio, Texas, lies a tranquil oasis, the Japanese Tea Garden. This historic, scenic garden, full of winding paths, koi-filled ponds, and gorgeous floral displays beneath bent trees, provides a peaceful retreat for both locals and tourists to enjoy.

History

The Japanese Tea Garden was developed on an abandoned rock quarry as part of Brackenridge Park in the early 20th century by city parks commissioner, Ray Lambert. Working closely with a Japanese artist Kinjiro Ninomiya, Lambert transformed the space into a picturesque Japanese-style garden. Today, it’s one of the top-ranked San Antonio attractions due to its beauty, history, and commitment to community enrichment.

The garden is situated within Brackenridge Park in San Antonio and is a quick ten-minute drive from San Antonio’s downtown. Public transportation options include the VIA Metropolitan Transit bus routes, which have stops near the park. For those staying downtown, a short ride with services like Uber or Lyft can also get you there.
