Kistefos Museum is located on the historic grounds of Kistefos Træsliperi A/S, established in 1889 by Anders Sveaas. This factory was a key player in Norway’s industrial scene, producing wood pulp until the mid-1950s. In 1996, Christen Sveaas, Anders’ grandson, turned it into a museum to honor and preserve the family legacy. The original machinery and buildings remain intact, offering a unique Living Factory experience.

How to Get There

Reaching Kistefos Museum is straightforward by car or public transport. If driving, take County Road 241 from Oslo via Klækken and follow the signs to Kistefos. There are two park entrances: Entrance South (Kistefossveien 24) and Entrance North (Samsmoveien 41). For public transport, VY runs an express bus between Oslo and Kistefos on select days during the season. The bus leaves Oslo Bus Terminal at 10:15 AM and returns from Kistefos at 5:00 PM, with tickets needing to be booked in advance.
