The Prehistory Mural is a captivating attraction in Viñales, Cuba, offering insights into the area’s ancient history. This enormous mural, spanning 120 meters in width, is painted on the side of Mogote Pita, located about 4 kilometers west of the village of Viñales.
Commissioned by the Cuban government in 1961, the Prehistory Mural was designed by Cuban artist Leovigildo González Morillo, who drew inspiration from Diego Rivera. It took four years to complete and illustrates the progression of life in Cuba, from dinosaurs to the first indigenous people.
The mural is easily reachable by car, bicycle, or on foot from Viñales village. It is situated near the Dos Hermanas mogotes in the Viñales Valley.
Entry to the mural area is generally affordable, with tickets priced around 120 to 150 pesos in the national currency.
