Repovesi National Park is a tranquil retreat located in southeastern Finland, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life. Nestled within the municipalities of Kouvola and Mäntyharju, it is situated just a couple of hours northeast of Helsinki. Originally a site for extensive commercial forestry, the area was transformed into a national park in 2003, making it the largest forest conservation area in the region.
The Repovesi area has a rich history, having been significant for Stone Age hunting and fishing, slash-and-burn agriculture, tar production, and sawmilling. Today, it serves as a remarkable example of successful conservation efforts.
Traveling to Repovesi National Park is convenient by car from Helsinki, which is approximately 180 km away. The park is located about 45 km north of Kouvola’s city center. During the winter months, driving is the most practical option. There are multiple entry points, including the Lapinsalmi and Saarijärvi parking areas.
There is no entrance fee to Repovesi National Park; however, visitors should be mindful that some areas may have restricted access due to conservation measures.
