The town’s name, derived from Greek words meaning “”saffron”” and “”city,”” highlights its historical significance as a major saffron producer.

Getting to Safranbolu

Travelers can reach Safranbolu by bus from Istanbul or Ankara. The journey from Istanbul takes around seven hours, while from Ankara, it is approximately three hours. Buses usually drop passengers off in the new town, from where public buses or taxis can be used to reach the old town.
