History

How to Get There

To get to Velika Planina, you can take a cable car from Kamniška Bistrica. The bottom station is about a 50-minute drive from Ljubljana. There are also buses from Ljubljana to Stahovica, where you can hop on the cable car. If you’re up for a hike, there are several well-marked trails like Stahovica-Pasje, Krivčevo-Podkrajnik, and Kamniška Bistrica-Kraljev Hrib.

The cable car ride takes about 5 minutes, and from the upper station, you can either take a ski lift or walk up to the Gradišce area.

1. Weather Conditions: Always check the weather forecast before heading out. Afternoon storms are common in summer, so mornings are usually better.
2. Physical Condition: The walk from the upper cable car station to the Zeleni rob restaurant takes about 30-40 minutes and can be challenging. Good hiking shoes are a must.
3. Alternative Transport: If walking isn’t your thing, you can book a van from the upper station to the Zeleni rob inn.
4. Cultural Experience: Try traditional dishes like soured milk and žganci, and don’t miss out on buying some local dairy products like butter and cheese.
