History
Eiríksstaðir is steeped in historical significance. Inhabited by Erik the Red during the 10th century, the family was notable in the saga of the settlement of Greenland. Leif Erikson, born here, later made his historic voyage, positioning Eiríksstaðir right at the heart of Viking exploration narrative.
How to Get There
Eiríksstaðir, situated in the Haukadalur valley, is about a 2-hour drive north from Reykjavik. The journey along Route 1 is followed by a transition onto Route 60 and 586. The site is accessible by most types of vehicles.
