The Voie de la Liberté — Liberty Road — runs from Utah Beach in Normandy to Bastogne, marked every kilometre by a milestone carrying a torch and the stars of the US flag. This one, numbered 1147, stands near the Mardasson and is the end of the line: the distance the Allied advance covered from the Normandy landings to the relief of Bastogne, counted out one stone at a time.
