Alongside the German cemetery at Recogne is the site where American dead from the Ardennes were first laid in temporary graves. They are no longer here — the remains were repatriated or moved to Henri-Chapelle and Luxembourg in the years after the war — and what is left is an open field with a marker. That emptiness is the point, and it is why the stop is easy to drive past without realising what you are looking at.
