McNay Art Museum
6000 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, TX 78209, USAB
Posted by Brandon B.AdminMarion Koogler McNay left her Spanish Colonial Revival house and her collection to the city, and it opened in 1954 as the first museum of modern art in Texas. The holdings run through post-impressionism and European modernism — Picasso, Matisse, O'Keeffe — and the theatre arts collection is among the largest anywhere. The twenty-three acres of garden and sculpture around the house are free to walk. It is north of downtown, so it pairs with the Botanical Garden rather than with the river.
