Memorial Renée Lemaire and 10th Armored Aid Station
Rue Neufchâteau, 6600 Bastogne, BelgiumB
Posted by Brandon B.AdminA plaque on a building in the town centre marks the 10th Armored Division aid station, struck by a German bomb on Christmas Eve 1944. Around thirty wounded men were killed, along with Renée Lemaire — a Belgian civilian nurse, 30 years old, who had volunteered to help the American medics and who is remembered in Bastogne as the Angel of Bastogne. Her story reaches most visitors through Band of Brothers; the plaque is where it actually happened, on an ordinary street you would otherwise walk straight down.
