San Antonio's natural history and Texas history museum, on Broadway beside Brackenridge Park. The strength is the South Texas material: the Pecos River rock art galleries, the dinosaur hall and a run of reconstructed historic houses in the grounds. It was substantially rebuilt in 2017 and the river-facing wing works well. It is the obvious choice with children, and pairs with the Botanical Garden and the Japanese Tea Garden, all within a mile.
