Benirràs: Ibiza's Sunset Drumming Beach

Cala Benirràs is a beautiful cove on Ibiza's green north coast, near Port de Sant Miquel in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja. Framed by wooded hills, with clear water and a small rocky islet at the mouth of the bay, it is one of the most scenic beaches on the island.

Benirràs is best known for its sunset drummers. For decades, people have gathered here, especially on Sunday evenings in summer, to play drums as the sun goes down, keeping alive a tradition that goes back to the island's hippy era.

Cap Bernat

The distinctive rock standing in the water at the entrance to the bay is Cap Bernat. Its shape is often said to resemble a figure at prayer or a hand pointing upwards, and it makes a dramatic silhouette at sunset.

What to Expect

  • The beach: a mix of sand and pebbles with calm, clear water that is good for swimming and snorkelling.
  • Restaurants: a few restaurants and bars sit behind the beach.
  • Sunday drums: in summer the beach fills with drummers, dancers and spectators towards sunset.

Access and Parking

The road to Benirràs winds through the hills and parking is limited. In peak season, access for cars has been controlled at busy times, particularly on Sundays, with parking restrictions and shuttle options. Check current arrangements before you go and arrive early.

Tips for Visiting

  • Go on a Sunday evening in summer for the drums, but expect crowds.
  • Visit on a weekday for a quieter swim and lunch.
  • Bring water shoes for the pebbly shore.
  • Combine it with Cova de Can Marçà and Port de Sant Miquel nearby.
