Cala Comte: Turquoise Water and Sunset on the West Coast

Cala Comte, also written Cala Conta, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza. On the island's west coast near Sant Antoni, it is not one beach but a series of small sandy coves and rocky platforms looking out over remarkably clear, shallow turquoise water, with small uninhabited islands dotted just offshore.

It is famous for sunsets. With nothing but sea and islands to the west, the evening light here is spectacular, and crowds gather on the rocks every summer evening to watch the sun go down.

What to Expect

  • Several coves: the main sandy beaches are small, so space fills up. The rocks around them are popular for sunbathing too.
  • Clear, shallow water: great for swimming and snorkelling near the shore.
  • Views: the islets offshore, including s'Illa des Bosc, make the setting especially photogenic.
  • Food and drinks: there are restaurants and bars above the beach, including Sunset Cala Conta on the rocks.

Safety

The water between the beach and the nearest islets can look very shallow and inviting, but currents in the channels can be strong, especially when the wind is up. Do not try to swim or wade across to the islands unless conditions are genuinely calm, and pay attention to any warning flags.

Tips for Visiting

  • Arrive early in high season. The car parks fill up by late morning.
  • Bring water shoes for the rocky parts of the shore.
  • Stay for sunset, and arrive in good time to find a spot on the rocks.
  • Use the bus or boat from Sant Antoni in summer to avoid parking problems.
