DC-10 Ibiza: Home of Circoloco

DC-10 is the club people mean when they say Ibiza still has an underground. It sits on the Salinas road in Sant Josep, right beside the end of Ibiza Airport's runway, and it looks like almost nothing from outside: a low, rough-edged building off a country road. That is a big part of the appeal. There are no dancers on podiums and no fireworks here. The draw is the music, the crowd and the planes coming in low over the terrace.

The name is usually said to come from the DC-10 airliners that roared over the site. Whatever the origin, the aircraft noise has become part of the club's identity.

Circoloco and the Monday Tradition

DC-10 began life as a simple roadside bar. It became a club in 1999, when Italian promoters Antonio Carbonaro and Andrea Pelino launched Circoloco there. The first parties were free Monday after-parties that started around 6am and ran into the afternoon, drawing a small crowd of workers and night owls after the weekend.

That Monday slot never went away. Circoloco grew into one of the most influential parties in electronic music, touring cities around the world, but Monday at DC-10 is still its home. Many of the house and techno DJs who now headline festivals built their reputations in this room.

Inside the Club

DC-10 has three areas:

• The Terrace: the most famous space, partly open to the sky, where the planes pass overhead.
• The Main Room: a darker, enclosed room for longer, heavier sets.
• The Garden: an open-air area for a break between rooms.

It holds roughly 1,500 people, which makes it much smaller than Ibiza's superclubs. That size is why the atmosphere feels close and why popular nights sell out.

Season, Nights and Tickets

• Season: summer only, from spring opening parties through to the autumn closings. It is closed in winter.
• Nights: open two to three nights a week. Circoloco on Monday is the signature night, with other parties on selected days.
• Tickets: buy in advance for Circoloco. Monday nights in July and August regularly sell out.
• Dress code: none. Wear whatever you are comfortable dancing in for a long night.

Getting There

DC-10 is on the Carretera de las Salinas, a few minutes from Ibiza Airport and around 15 minutes by car from Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa. Taxis are the usual way in. There is no nightlife to walk to nearby, so plan the journey in both directions, and book your ride home in advance, because taxis are scarce at closing time in high season.

Tips for Your Night

• Choose the night by the lineup, since the sound changes a lot from party to party.
• Go to at least one Circoloco if you only have time for a single DC-10 night.
• Spend time on the Terrace during daylight or early evening to catch the planes.
• Eat beforehand. There is nothing around the club once you are out on the Salinas road.
• Combine it with a daytime visit to the Ses Salines salt flats and beach, which are just down the same road.
