Posted by Brandon B.AdminCharles and Emma Frye left their collection of nineteenth-century German and American painting to the city on one binding condition: admission must always be free. It still is. The founding collection is Munich School salon painting, which is an acquired taste, but the contemporary programme in the other galleries is consistently among the most interesting in Seattle and the building is calm and well-lit. It is a ten-minute walk uphill from downtown and almost never busy.
