A 300-acre thumb of land sticking into Lake Washington in south Seattle, holding one of the last stands of old-growth forest inside any American city — Douglas firs up to 250 years old, never logged. A flat 2.4-mile loop runs the shoreline, and the interior trails climb into genuinely dark woods minutes from a bus stop. On a clear day Mount Rainier sits directly down the lake from the southern shore. Eagles nest here.
