How to Plan a Memorable Couples Weekend Getaway
The modern world is busy.
If you have a job, kids, a partner, a dog (the list goes on), it can be easy to get caught up in the daily activities that make up life, causing a bit of a disconnect to occur between you and your partner.
You have the idea to plan a romantic long-weekend getaway to help you and your partner find each other again, but how do you plan this in a way that leaves both you and them feeling reconnected and refreshed, rather than tired and stressed?
Plan the Romance First
Step one: choose where you want to go. That way, you can look around that location for romantic restaurants, a river cruise tour for an evening meal, or even a local park to meander around.
By picking the spots for romance first, you can ensure booking any places or tables in advance, so there will be no waiting on the day and no disappointment.
Keep Travel Short
Try to choose a local area where you live for your romantic getaway. That means, two hours travel or less if possible.
Imagine you have to travel for over five hours by public transport to reach your romantic spot. The longer journey increases the chance of things going wrong and of you and your partner arriving at your romantic destination tired, stressed, and already annoyed with one another. If you are travelling by car, you could cut down the length of the travel to and from the location a bit, but the last thing you want is a long road trip.
One Activity per Day
This is the hard part for many couples. Suppose you have booked a four-day weekend in Paris. You may want to go to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe. However, you should aim for one activity a day. This trip aims to reconnect with your partner, not to go sightseeing. You will need to have time together, to chat and do nothing, rather than waiting in queues or driving around to tick the next tourist attraction off your list.
Unplug and Reconnect with Each Other
In the modern world, many people are glued to their smartphones.
When you are working, but during a couple's weekend, you should only be using your phone to take photos of your time together. Take a break from social media. If you are aiming to see some sights, those uploads can wait until after your trip away.
Spending time talking and connecting will help you rebuild a bond, away from the stress of the internet and TikTok trends. Be with each other in the moment and have fun with it.
Add Small Gestures
Adding to the romance, small loving gestures go a long way. Set aside a bit of money to buy your partner something from your trip, even if it is a block of locally made fudge. This will show them that you care about them and will also be a fun token of your trip. Or, you could call ahead to the hotel or bed and breakfast you are staying at and have them set up champagne and roses, if that is what your partner likes.
Either way, the aim of this time is to reconnect, so disconnect from the internet, talk, see sights together, and be in the moment.
