Instituto Butantan
Av. Vital Brasil, 1500 - Butantã, São Paulo - SP, 05503-900, BrazilB
Posted by Brandon B.AdminFounded in 1901 after a plague outbreak and now one of the largest producers of antivenom and vaccines in the world, supplying most of Brazil's serum. The campus on the western edge of the city keeps several museums open to the public, the biological one holding live and preserved snakes, spiders and scorpions with an unusually frank treatment of what each does to a human. It is a long way out and needs a half-day, but it is the most distinctive museum in Sao Paulo and good with older children.
