History

Candi Sewu is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Central Java, Indonesia. It was built in the 8th century during the reign of the Mataram Kingdom. The temple complex consists of 249 stone structures arranged in a rectangular pattern, with a main sanctuary in the center. Candi Sewu is believed to have been built as a place of worship and meditation for the followers of Buddhism.

How to Get There

To reach Candi Sewu, travelers can fly into Adisutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta and then take a taxi or rented car to the temple complex. It is located approximately 35 kilometers from Yogyakarta and can be reached in about an hour by car.

Ticket Information

Tickets to visit Candi Sewu can be purchased at the entrance gate. The entrance fee is usually around 20,000 Indonesian Rupiah for foreign tourists. It is recommended to bring cash as credit cards may not be accepted.
