Unlike the squares in the more touristed colonial towns, this one is used overwhelmingly by locals: families in the early evening, municipal band concerts on Sundays, shoeshine stands and ice-cream carts through the day. The pedestrian streets running off it — Andador 5 de Mayo and Libertad — carry most of the centre's restaurants and bars.
