The main municipal market a few blocks east of the centre, near the Convent of the Cross: produce, meat, cheese from the Querétaro dairy country, and a run of food counters along the aisles. The local dish to look for is the gordita de migajas — masa filled with the crisp pork scraps left from rendering carnitas — which is close to a Querétaro speciality and hard to find elsewhere. Mornings are best; it empties out by mid-afternoon.
